Horror of Frankenstein $18.96 Coming at the tail end of Hammer Studios’ Frankestein cycle (it was preceeded by the classic CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN, and FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED), HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN takes the familiar story in a much different direction than its predecessors. The film finds young Victor Frankenstein (Bates) becoming fed up with his boorish father and his boring classes. Longing to escape to Vienna to experiment in his lab, Victor offs his father and quits school. Soon Victor has successfully re-animated a turtle and begins work on his ultimate creation–a human made out of dead body parts. Taking place in a vaguely mod-ish 18th century where the characters carry on as if they were London during the swingin’ 1960s, HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN has its tongue planted firmly in cheek. As Kirby goes to great lengths to track down this notorious film, he starts to have hallucinations of dangerous proportions. Will the rumors surrounding the film destroy him, or will he find it in time to use it as a weapon? Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved. |

Masters of Horror: Black Cat $11.36 The Showtime series turns to the original master of horror for inspiration in this chilling tale. Jeffrey Combs (RE-ANIMATOR) stars as Edgar Allan Poe, a writer tortured by debt, drink, and his dying wife. But what is most haunting to the writer is his bride’s creepy cat, an animal that’s seemingly possessed by evil. Thanks to the cat’s behavior, Poe’s own actions become increasingly deranged while he is inspired to write one of his greatest stories. THE BLACK CAT continues the terrifying tradition of MASTERS OF HORROR with its inspired pairing of RE-ANIMATOR director Stuart Gordon and Combs, the film’s star. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Masters of Horror: Pelts $11.36 To win the heart of a woman, Jake Feldman (Meatloaf) attempts to create the world’s most beautiful fur coat. But since this is a film in Showtime’s MASTERS OF HORROR series, things don’t end happily ever after for the couple. The raccoon pelts used by Feldman bear more than just the ire of PETA protesters. The possessed skins have the power to create evil and violence in the lives of people around them. Directed by Italian horror maestro Dario Argento (SUSPIRIA), this is an adaptation of a story written by Bram-Stoker-award-winning author F. Paul Wilson. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Rocky Horror Picture Show $11.36 THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW is a magical phenomenon unlike anything ever before seen onscreen. Borrowing largely from cinema’s horror conventions, the film begins as an innocent young couple is stranded at the home of a mad scientist who is building the perfect man. The castle is filled with a most bizarre group of characters who worship their master, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, played magnificently by the fabulously sexy Tim Curry, in leather jacket, pearls, fishnet stockings, and heavy makeup. Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon) are forced to examine their own sexuality as the voluptuous doctor releases the hidden desires in each of them.Based on the stage musical by Richard O’Brien (who also appears in the film as Riff Raff), the film comes alive with unforgettable song-and-dance numbers that have come to represent the sexual liberation of the 1970s. The outstanding costuming and makeup, the terrific acting by a group of relative unknowns (Curry, O’Brien, Bostwick, Sarandon, Nell Campbell, Patricia Quinn, Meat Loaf), and the memorable songs (”Time Warp,” “Sweet Transvestite”) help make THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW one of the most bizarrely entertaining and satisfying musicals ever made. Masters of Horror: The V Word $11.36 Two nerdy video gamers, curious about seeing death face-to-face, break into a funeral home in this episode of Showtime’s MASTERS OF HORROR series. But a terrifying encounter with a bloodsucking creature (Michael Ironside, SCANNERS), forces them to make a difficult choice between life and death. An interesting spin on the vampire mythos, THE V WORD was directed by Ernest Dickerson, a longtime cinematographer of Spike Lee, and respected film (JUICE) and TV (THE WIRE) director in his own right.
